“The Creed in Slow Motion”

Posted by universalis on 5 December 2021

The Creed in Slow Motion is a new book by Martin Kochanski, due to be published by Hodder & Stoughton on 7 April 2022.

The Creed is the bones of our faith. In all our different ways, it makes us who we are. But when we stand up and recite the Creed in unison, we have no time to contemplate what it is that we are committing ourselves to. The words rush past and there is no time to reflect on them. If we could only slow them down and hear them properly, they would have the power to change worlds.

That is what The Creed in Slow Motion aims to do. In 45 short chapters it focuses on the Creed phrase by phrase, sometimes even word by word. It is not about being told what to believe. It is for you to engage your mind and discover what you do believe, and have been believing all along — by turns deep, heartening, startling, revolutionary and even, by the world’s standards, outrageous.

Open the book, live the forgotten commandment of the Gospel, ‘to love the Lord your God with all your mind’, and discover how you as a Christian are not ‘just like normal people, only nicer’ but something infinitely greater.
