Encouraging people with free trials

Posted by universalis on 23 January 2019

When groups get together, at conferences, retreats and so on, it is quite common for them to do at least some of the Hours and it is also common for them to use Universalis to do it. The question is how to preserve that spark when everyone gets home afterwards, in the hope that it will burst into flame.

So here is a summary of how anyone with a mobile phone, or a tablet, or a laptop, can get the Hours free for at least a month. This gives good habits a chance to get established, and lets people decide whether they really want to carry on doing the Hours, in whatever way suits them best.

Android

The Catholic Calendar app is free and it gives access to all the Hours and the Mass readings for a month before you have to decide whether to buy or subscribe. You can get it from Amazon or Google Play.

iPhone / iPad / iPod Touch

The Catholic Calendar app is free and it gives access to all the Hours and the Mass readings for a month before you have to decide whether to buy or subscribe. You can get it from the App Store.

Windows

The Universalis program for Windows is free to download and install. It gives access to all the Hours and the Mass readings for a bit more than a month. Then you can decide whether to buy a registration code to unlock it. You can download it from our web site.

What is free forever

The liturgical calendar is always available, with no time limit. So are the About Today pages, with their pictures and their notes about the saints.

I salute Universalis for offering its free trial — Universalis’ free trial got me hooked on praying the LIturgy of the Hours in 2010, and ultimately led me to being received into the Catholic Church in September 2013. With the free trial, I figured I had nothing to lose and everything to gain, being able to take a “test-drive” for a month. The one-time $30 U.S. has been worth every penny (pence?) and more. I especially appreciate having access to Universalis’ content on all of my devices. I still refer to the Catholic Calendar frequently, to see what’s coming up in the Seasons. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the best praying tool gem on the planet!
