Universalis on the Mac: beta test version

Posted by universalis on 17 March 2008

I’ve now nearly finished writing a Mac version of the downloadable Universalis program. If you are a Mac user and want to try it out, please let me know, either by email or as a comment on this blog entry, and I’ll tell you how you can download and install it.

It works beautifully on my iMac running Leopard, but I’d like to know how it works on older versions of Mac OS X: on Tiger, for instance. And if you have a Mac that is PowerPC-based rather than Intel-based, I’d like to see if I can produce a Universal version that works for you.

If you have already bought a registration code then you can use it on the Mac version. If you haven’t, then you don’t need to buy one just yet: if you install the Mac version today then it’ll work as a trial version until the end of April.

LATER: Thank you all for your responses and your comments on the program! The download is now generally available. Click here for the download.

Thank you all for your interest. I’ve replied to you individually by email, but now I’ve sent out a general mailing about it, I may as well leave a note in this comment to say that Universalis on the Mac can be downloaded here.

  16. Doug Says:

Thank-you! I just got the Universalis News for Easter” email and found out abut the new Mac version. I installed it and really like it. I missed having Universalis locally ever since I left the PC world a few years back. Thank-you also for the great tip re downloading the liturgical calendar. This is a great work you are doing. Is there any way to volunteer help you with entering new data?

  17. Michael Says:

mac version works fine on ppc running os 10.4 thanks, keep up the good work

  18. Charles Stinard Says:

I recently downloaded and installed the 2 files from the site on my newer Palm with the Mac OS X (unipalm folder containing univ.pdb and Universalis.prc). Afterwards, I discovered an ostensibly newer download from a link here on this blog, which I have downloaded. Shall I delete the first one and install the second?
    Blessings and thanks, Charles Stinard

  19. universalis Says:

Charles, what’s important with the Palm version is that you’re going to be running it on the Palm. What sort of PC you’re using to perform the download is irrelevant.

To install and use Universalis on the Palm, download the Palm version onto your PC (Mac or Windows) and synchronize it onto the Palm from there.

To install and use Universalis on the Mac, download the Mac version.

Incidentally, it’s OK to use the same registration code for both as long as you’re the only person using your Mac. What we don’t want is a situation where your family or friends can use Universalis on your Mac at the same time as you are using it on your Palm!

As a hospice nurse I spend much of the day in my car. I Can do morning prayer and Compline at home, but would love to be able to download the rest of the daily Liturgy of the Hours to my Ipod to listen to as I drive. Is that available at your site, or anywhere else that you know of? Thank you for your help.

Auggie: please follow the link at the end of the blog posting.

Christine: one day but not yet! Apple doesn’t yet let non-Americans develop for the iPhone or the iPod Touch.
